Don t Forget

During one of my trips to Savannah last winter, I visited my old neighbor. We sat and talked for over an hour. I shared details about how things were going in Atlanta, and she updated me on her family. One story she shared was how her granddaughter was about to go on a school trip to Washington D.C., but before boarding the bus, the granddaughter realized she left her coat home. Since it was winter and the girl was traveling further north, her dad immediately hopped in his car to raced home to get his daughter’s coat before the bus’ scheduled departure. Thankfully, her father was able to pick up the coat and make it back in time to ensure his daughter had adequate clothing for the trip ahead.

I’ve had several situations like this over the past winter. I’d leave the house with a light jacket, but the low temperatures and brisk wind would cause me to go back and get my big coat. Although I felt like I could endure the environment, wisdom always reminds me that my endurance won’t keep me from getting sick but being properly dressed will. Likewise, when it comes to being spiritually protected, Ephesians 6:10 -11 tells us to be strong in the Lord and His mighty power (not your endurance). You do this by putting on all God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against the strategies of the devil (i.e. harsh environments/”weather conditions”). Just like you make sure you’re adequately dressed before leaving the house, you should do the same thing spiritually. And, should you ever leave the house without the proper “clothes,” you need to go back and grab your coat (i.e. – your armor).

So, how do you dress yourself spiritually? I’ll share more details on Wednesday, so stay tuned…**G.I.G.**
