Plated

I can’t remember the last time I bought something that was made of real gold. I’m not sure if it’s because I don’t want to spend the extra money to invest in something that’s good quality. Or, maybe I’ve become content with the cheaper stuff that offers instant gratification. And, even though I know the knock-offs won’t last, it’s so inexpensive that it can be replaced in a heartbeat. The bad thing is if you only wear gold-plated items, you forget the properties of authentic gold. You’ll get confused and think that gold doesn’t last, and all gold turns your skin green.

The truth of the matter is real gold is resilient. It lasts down through the years. It won’t cause any harm to you; it actually adds to your value. And, unlike gold-plated items, genuine gold is purified and refined when under fire. The same is true when it comes to love.

Many times we accept something that is only love-plated. Yeah, it’s easy to come by, but it doesn’t last and it leaves you with side-effects like a broken heart or trust issues. And, if that’s the only love you entertain, over time you begin to think all love is like the knock-offs. It is only when you experience true love that you realize all the other loves were fake…

For me, it wasn’t until I truly encountered Jesus that I discovered what real love looks like. Through His diligent pursuit of me even when I pushed Him away, I learned that love never gives up (1 Corinthians 13:7). By His faithful display of loving-kindness towards me after I’ve hurt Him time after time, I realized that love doesn’t keep score (1 Corinthians 13:5). And, because of His willingness to still see purpose in me although I keep falling and messing up, I know love is patient (1 Corinthians 13:4). It is because of Him that my love is being transformed from a superficial emotion that only coats the surface to pure character that is genuine throughout. I just want to be like my Father, and love with the same love He’s given me.**G.I.G.**
