I Am Barabbas

Jesus was taken into captivity around Passover, and it was customary for the governor, Pilate, to pardon a prisoner every year during Passover. When it was time to decide which person would be released, Jesus or Barabbas, the crowd chose Barabbas. Barabbas was a notorious criminal. He was deserving of the punishment set before him, but instead he was set free. So, an innocent man, who never sinned, was sentenced to a brutal death while the guilty sinner walked away a free man. How was this fair? It wasn’t fair. It was love, the very love that took my place.

“For Jesus knew that the Father would have to treat Jesus like Barabbas so He could treat Barabbas like Jesus.” In other words, God had to treat Jesus like a sinner (to pay the price of sin) so He could treat us like sons and daughters. Did you know that Barabbas’ name actually means “Son of the Father.” So, even before we turned to Him, He called us to be sons & daughters. Since we are Barabbas, why not accept the free gift and fulfill your name? **G.I.G.**
