Delight

source.

Everyone has desires – fulfilled and unfulfilled.  If you have unfulfilled desires the best way to get them satisfied is to delight in God. Initially, when hearing that statement, I know you’re trying to figure out the correlation between the two and connect the dots. I got you! First, let’s check out Psalm 37:4 AMP: “Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart.”

When you delight in someone, you take joy in their company/presence. A great example of this can be found in Psalm 37:23 (NLT), which says, “The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.” But, interestingly enough, the “delight” found in verse 23 is not the same “delight” in verse 4. In verse 23, it’s defined as (in Hebrew /ref #2654) being pleased with and taking pleasure in. On the other hand, in verse 4, it’s defined (in Hebrew /ref #6026) to be soft or pliable. What?!

Let’s think about it. When you spend time with someone long enough, you begin to become “influenced” by them. You become “soft or pliable” to their influence…

I’m going to bring it all together in just a second. First, let’s check out another key word in Psalm 37:4 – give.  The scripture says that God will “give” us the desires of our heart when we “delight” ourselves in Him. Upon looking up “give,” I discovered several words that describes its meaning. Of course there were words like, “grant, bestow, deliver,” but there were also words like, “put, make, assign, ordain, and thrust.” So, this means that not only will God grant the desires of your heart, but He will plant them.

Bringing it home: According to Psalm 37:4, a sure-fire way to get your desires fulfilled is to make yourself pliable to God so He can put the desires in your heart. And, He won’t just put them there, He will grant them also…P.S. – the more you spend time with God, He will actually become your strongest desire. **G.I.G.**
