Unconditional love

Hello loves! It’s February, and you know what that means, right?!…It’s Love Month!! Is everyone as excited as me?! Well, you should be. I’ve got some good stuff in store for you. And, I’ll start it off with a quick explanation of agape.

What is agape? Simply put, it’s unconditional love. I like the way Thomas Jay Oord defines it: “an intentional response to promote well-being when responding to that which has generated ill-being.” Agape is the type of love that God has for us, but unfortunately, this is how many of us see His love…

The Thought Process:
It’s difficult to wrap my head around His love. It’s hard to believe that when I blatantly wrong Him, He still wants to talk to me 5 minutes later. I’m so used to people turning their backs on me after I’ve hurt them, or at least giving me the silent treatment for a few days to teach me a lesson. That’s why I find it hard to come to Him. My guilt keeps me away. I mean, isn’t He mad at me?…

Most of us cannot fathom a love like His, because, for most of us, the only love we’ve ever known is conditional. We interact with God as though He’s one of our everyday relationships (w/ people). Subsequently, when we mess up, we run away from Him instead of running to Him. If only we could really grasp the fact that His love is different; it’s unconditional. That means that His love remains the same towards us regardless of what we do.

The biggest example of God’s unconditional love for us is the gift of Jesus. Romans 5:8 says, “But God shows His love for us in that while we were sinners, Christ died for us.” If God’s love were conditional, He would have only given us Jesus when we were on our best behavior, but instead He showed us love when we were least deserving…

So, you can come to Him (no matter what). His arms are open every minute of the day waiting on you to run to Him. His love is everlasting, unhindered, and faithful…His love is agape. **G.I.G.**

P.S. – This is my response to His love…
