Empty Calories

Source.

After I started my healthy living journey, I became familiar with the expression “empty calories.” Foods that contain “empty calories” may provide energy, but they have little to no nutritional value. In other words, they don’t benefit your health. And, if you think about it spiritually, there’s a lot things we do that don’t benefit our spiritual health. For instance one day after work last week, I sat around watching a “Married to Medicine” marathon. By the third episode, I had to cut it off and do something productive because I realized it wasn’t “adding” anything to my life! Now don’t get me wrong, it’s okay to enjoy your favorite show, just like it’s okay to eat cake or cookies; I just wouldn’t eat those things everyday or with every meal, because those items contain “empty calories.” The only thing they add to your life is “weight.” Likewise, if you spend all of your free time feeding your spirit “junk food,” so to speak, your spirit will be heavy/weighed down. And, don’t forget about the side effect named “indigestion!” If you’re not feeding your spirit the Word, you’ll find it hard to let go of things like unforgiveness; and that’s nothing but “waste”…a “waste” of your life.

Start feeding your spirit less junk and more Word. It will help you grow. **G.I.G.**
