Why Love

Source.

Besides the fact that it’s a commandment, why should we love? Why should we love those who don’t earn our love? Why should we be kind to people who blatantly mistreat us? Why?…There’s more than one reason, but today I’m going to focus on one. And, that reason is because love identifies us as His, which in return brings Him glory.

John 13:35 says that it’s our love that identifies us as Christians. Why is that? Because only someone who is Christ-like, someone who reflects the nature of God can keep loving when all other loves expire. We are called to resemble God’s unconditional love in this world, so those around us can get an idea, a glimpse, a taste of what He’s like.

So, you see why love is important? Love is like our “birthmark.” A birthmark is a distinguishable mark that’s present on the skin at birth. Birthmarks are so distinct that quite often when others are unable to see or hear the obvious identity features, such as a face or voice, they’re able to identify a person by their birthmark. The same is true for born-again believers; our “birthmark” is love.

Not everyone is born with a physical birthmark, but everyone who’s born-again spiritually has one. Love is the evidence/mark of our spiritual rebirth, but, unfortunately, a lot of people are unable to recognize us because we hide our “birthmark.”…Don’t hide Love. Show Love. God is Love. **G.I.G.**

P.S. – When we accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit poured the love of God on the inside of our hearts (Romans 5:5). So, we possess the God kind of love on the inside of us; we just have to grow in Love so it can exude from the inside out. And, what better way to grow in Love than by growing closer to Love?
