Love is All

Source.

When I was in high school, my Granny gave me a gold-plated watch with a band that was made of ten little boxes that resembled scrolls. Each “scroll” had one of the Ten Commandments printed on it. I guess Granny thought I needed a reminder every time I checked the time. LoL! (P.S. – I’m surprised I actually wore it!!). Anyway, if I knew then what I know now, I would’ve just worn a watch that said “Love.” I’m sure everyone knows most of the Ten Commandments with all its “Thou Shalt Nots,” but what if I told you that you don’t have to remember all of them or try to keep them all? What If I told you that every single Commandment could be summed up in one word? LOVE. I’m sure if I told you that, you wouldn’t believe me. That’s why it’s great that I’m not the one that said it! Check out these scriptures:

A NEW COMMANDMENT I give unto you, THAT YE LOVE ONE ANOTHER; as I have loved you, that YE ALSO LOVE ONE ANOTHER. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples/followers, IF YE HAVE LOVE ONE TO ANOTHER. (John 13:34-35)

For ALL THE LAW IS FULFILLED IN ONE WORD, even in this; THOU SHALT LOVE THY NEIGHBOR AS THYSELF. (Galatians 5:14)

Owe no man any thing, but to LOVE ONE ANOTHER; for HE THAT LOVETH ANOTHER HATH FULFILLED THE LAW. For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and IF THERE BE ANY OTHER COMMANDMENT, IT IS BRIEFLY COMPREHENDED IN THIS SAYING, namely, THOU SHALT LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR AS THYSELF. (Romans 13:8-10)

Here’s the same passage in The Message translation:

Don’t run up debts, except for the huge debt of love you owe each other. When you love others, you complete what the law has been after all along. The law code—don’t sleep with another person’s spouse, don’t take someone’s life, don’t take what isn’t yours, don’t always be wanting what you don’t have, and any other “don’t” you can think of—finally adds up to this: Love other people as well as you do yourself. You can’t go wrong when you love others. When you add up everything in the law code, the sum total is love. (Romans 13:8-10)

So, basically, when you love your neighbor, you fulfill the Law (aka Ten Commandments). Because when you truly love your neighbor, won’t lie, you won’t envy, you won’t kill, etc. The complete Ten Commandments is encompassed in Love. So, don’t be obsessed with trying to keep every single Commandment; just concentrate on growing &  walking in Love. **G.I.G.**
