What's Missing

Have you ever been home and had a “craving” for something, but you didn’t know what you were longing for? So, you go scavenging through the refrigerator in hopes of finding something to fill the void only to find out that it didn’t “hit the spot;” it wasn’t what you desired. Or, have you ever been lonely, and you thought the remedy was companionship? So, you call up some friends and hang out for a few hours only to go back home feeling emptier than you felt before. Or, maybe you have everything you’ve ever wanted, checked all the acquisitions off your list, but something’s still missing…

God created us with the intention of having a relationship with us. Subsequently, there’s a space in our lives that’s meant for Him to fill. But, quite so often, people try to fill that void with other things: a job, friends, hobbies, money, shopping, companionship, alcohol, or drugs. Unfortunately, none of those things are capable of making us whole. But, isn’t that why we pursue such things? To make us feel happy? Complete? Fulfilled? In actuality, we can have all those things and still be unhappy, incomplete, and unfulfilled. So, why does everything seem like a shallow thrill? What’s the missing piece?

We, as human beings, are like cars manufactured to run on gas, but we fill our tanks with everything but gas and wonder why we don’t run properly…It’s in God we live, in God we move, and in God we have our being. Selah.

P.S. – Here’s two songs that express just what I’m trying to say…and no, they’re not Christian songs, which proves the point all the more. **G.I.G.**
