Hair Update & Fall Tips

Hair Update

Hey guys! We’ve reached another weekend! (Yay!!) For all those who follow me on Facebook and Instagram, you know I spent my entire week recovering from getting my wisdom teeth removed. Needless to say, this was not one of my best weeks (it was a rough recovery), but I did get to spend a lot of time with family, which is ALWAYS a good thing.

I noticed that I haven’t done a hair post in a while, so I decided to fill you guys in on what’s been going on with my hair. To be honest, I’ve been sticking to my everyday routine. And, speaking of routine, I’m going to (finally) do a post next week with a detailed description of my hair routine. As some of you may know, I do the Curly Girl Method, so I don’t use any shampoos, but I’m seriously considering adding a product to my routine that provides a little bit stronger cleansing power than just plain ol’ conditioner. Don’t get me wrong, I love using conditioners to cleanse my hair, but I think it’s time to clarify (minus sulfates). I’m thinking about trying an Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse, but I’m going to look into some other options as well (and I’m always open to suggestions). Whatever I decide to do, rest assured that I’ll share it with you guys on the blog.

Another thing I’ve been thinking about lately is COLOR! I’m seriously considering adding some color to my hair, but I’m still somewhat indecisive. I’m torn because I know color would definitely make my curls pop and add some awesome dimension to my hair, BUT I’m concerned about damage. Since going natural, I’ve noticed that my hair is more difficult to keep moisturized. And, my hair has been doing so well (health-wise) that I don’t want to do anything to compromise it’s welfare. BUT COLOR IS SO PRETTY! And, I know it’s possible to have color-treated, healthy hair, BUT I’m still weighing the risks…Here are some colors I like (my favorite is the top, right corner pic):

Last, by certainly not least, this is my first Autumn as a natural (this time last year I was transitioning), so I can use all the tips I can get. Here are some awesome Fall Hair Care Tips from Lauren at LaCoCoBella.com:

  • Deep Condition weekly
  • Opt for steam treatments or the Green House Effect Treatments. You can even let the steam from your shower give you a moisture boost.
  • Use heavier, buttery products (like WonderCurl or The Gud Stuff) to seal in moisture and keep it locked in. Apply when your hair is damp/wet
  • Shampoo less (if you can manage this one, if you are like me, I still have to shampoo weekly with my beloved shampoo bars!). Try co-washing more or using an all-natural non-stripping shampoo
  • Oil your scalp…. don’t go crazy with this one or you will have to shampoo more often and clog the pores on your scalp. Use a light oil mixed with essential oils
  • Protect the hair around your nape and your ends….the friction from the collars of those cute sweaters, coats and scarves can cause breakage.
  • Wear protective styles
