Today’s Proverbs Verse: Everything God says is true—and it’s a shield for all who come to Him for safety. (Proverbs 30:5 CEV)

Press – To exert steady weight or force against; bear down on.

When you press towards something, you put force against or a steady weight on anything that interferes with you reaching your goal. In life, there will be many occasions where you’ll need to press on. You have to keep it moving, and if an obstacle slows you down, put more weight on it. You do this by first setting a goal and keeping your eyes on it. Look at what the Apostle Paul said,

No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I FOCUS on this one thing: Forgetting the past and LOOKING FORWARD TO WHAT LIES AHEAD, I PRESS on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. (Philippians 3:13-14)

Paul was able to press on because he made up his mind to focus on the finish line/the ultimate goal. When your sight is fixed on the prize, it’s very difficult to get sidetracked. But, to ensure you don’t get sidetracked, you’ve got to meditate on the promise that says you can have what you’re pressing towards — that will keep you focused. In other words, meditate on the Word (this is also how you put “more weight” on obstacles that stand in your way).

Here’s another great illustration:

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And LET US RUN WITH ENDURANCE the race God has set before us. We do this by KEEPING OUR EYES ON JESUS, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting Him, He endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now He is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. (Hebrews 12:1-2 NLT)

In this scripture, not only are we encouraged to press on, but we are given an example to look to. Jesus, himself, had to press on, and you know what helped Him to endure? He was focused on the joy that was set before Him, the joy of knowing that all the pain and suffering He was going through would result in our freedom & salvation. And, because He endured, He’s now seated on the right hand of the Father (a place of honor)…What kind of honor awaits you if you continue to press on? **G.I.G.**

I really can relate to this one. It is so easy to get distracted and lose focus, but I remember being that track runner and what got me through the race was knowing the finish line was there and all I had to re-do do was give it all I had to make to the end. Great post!
